Rory BecaLike the clothing she designs, Rory Edelman, the founder of Rory Beca, is fun, spirited, and sophisticated. Her love of clothing and “dressing up” began when she was just a young child, but later blossomed into an insatiable curiosity to learn all she could about color, fabrics, and the true art forms behind fashion. It was this love of the aesthetic that led Rory to enroll in a summer program at the prestigious St. Martins in London. It was during this stint with the art and design college that Rory decided that fashion was her true calling. She then attended the Boston School of Design and soon moved to Los Angeles to begin working alongside designer/stylist Deb McGuire. One fateful day, Deb noticed Rory wearing one of her hand knit scarves and immediately used them to dress the cast of Friends and Crossing Jordan. These hand knit scarves – along with a collection of tops created from rare and unusual yarns and vintage pieces – were soon discovered by the buyer from Henri Bendel in New York City and before long, Rory had two sell-out trunk shows at the legendary Fifth Avenue department store. And thus, the Rory Beca line was born. Rory begins each of her collections by finding inspiration from fabrics – such as printed silks, silk charmeuse, chiffon, and cashmere – that she discovers during her travels all around the world. This varied palette of textures, colors and patterns gives the Rory Beca line its authentic, almost-worldly aesthetic, which translates into designs that fit into every woman’s lifestyle whether she is vacationing in Saint Tropez or shopping at boutiques in Malibu.
