Abaeté

(Pronounced ah-BYE-ah-tay)

In creating Abaeté, designer and founder Laura Poretzky has found inspiration in her own varied background and family history. Born in France and raised between Paris, New York and Rio de Janeiro, the line’s motto is “French femininity, Brazilian sensuality, American simplicity,” referring to Laura’s triple roots.

The name Abaeté is actually a family name, roughly translating to “person of virtue,” and the logo is the original Portuguese family crest, awarded to her great-great-grandfather in the 1800’s for his work as an abolitionist and serving as President of the Brazilian Senate.

Laura’s rich family history and tradition is reflected in the essence and design of the Abaeté line. Feminine and extremely flattering, she often uses color-blocking, gathering and pleating in just the right places to best fit the female form. The pieces often nod to a vintage fit or style, but always feel fresh, modern, and unique.
